I thought I was glass half full, but I’m spilling it!

I really didn’t think I had a whole lot to vent about. Until I sat down to write this post. And it just sort of all poured out of me!

Today I’m linking up with Wendy at Taking the Long Way Home & Holly at HoHo Runs for That Time of the Month link up.

My weight is up a little. If I don’t lose some, I’ll have to pay at Weight Watchers next month and October is fast approaching. I have actually been eating pretty good, so I blame hormones. Or maybe it’s all that snack baking. And now comes Yom Kippur to mess with my hormones some more and the obligatory bagel and lox to break the fast.

At least the scars aren't this bad
At least the scars aren’t this bad

I was just thinking the other day that I’ve run all year without any chafing. Until I got into the shower after my long run last week — which is the shortest long run I’ve done in a while (7 miles), but the first one I wore a Skirtsports gym skirt for (usually I only wear that cut for shorter runs).

Owie! On the outside of my right thigh. Where I’ve never had chafing before. So now I have this wound on my right thigh and I have to run 11 miles today (by the time you read this, I’ll probably already have run them). Could the extra weight be to blame?

Speaking of owies, I’ve seared fish hundreds of times. It’s quick, it’s easy, and we both like it. Except this week I also seared my hand. I was putting the last piece of fish in the sizzling butter when it slipped & hot butter splashed.

Thankfully not all over my (right) hand, but enough to make it hurt like a mother. A while back I touched the element in my stove with my left hand for about 1 second as I was removing something from the oven. I guess I’ll have almost matching scars now.

Considering how much cooking/baking I do, it’s a wonder I’m not covered in burns. I guess I’m cautious.

And let’s not forget the shoes that I’ve worn before suddenly cutting into my heel last week. Could the running Gods please give me a break? But not a literal one, thank you very much.

Drivers here need this!
Drivers here need this!

I’ve really had it up to here with drivers who just think they can go wherever they want to go (or stop wherever they want to stop, for that matter, too). I may not put much mileage on my car — which is why it’s 15 years old — but it’s almost all driving in town. The level of craziness in drivers these days is just astounding.

And I don’t live in a town with lots of traffic, either!

Speaking of traffic, there’s roadwork everywhere it seems. My husband jokes there’s 2 seasons: winter and roadwork. I’ve been having to find some alternate routes due to the roadwork.

And speaking of my husband, we’re in negotiations about doing another half after my half in October. I really want to do one, but the pickings are slim. I thought at one point we’d go to Seattle to visit my MIL (which is what my husband suggested) and I’d do the Seattle Half Marathon. Only he changed his mind and didn’t want to go to Seattle then, so we’re going earlier.

Then I thought about Rehoboth Beach, which has actually been on my radar for years. It’s within driving distance but it’s a loooooong drive and we don’t like to drive. Not to mention you pretty much have to drive through NJ to get there which isn’t a whole lot of fun, although my husband has relatives there.

Then there’s Kiawah Island, another one that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Except we definitely wouldn’t be driving there. And let’s face it, the weather in December in the northeast is iffy. It can be beautiful or you can get a blizzard (heck, last year we had a pretty good snowstorm the day before Thanksgiving).

No, honey, seriously, I am not throwing you under the bus here. I’m just thinking out loud. Sometimes writing things out is the best way to think.

And I get it: by October, hopefully, I’ll have run 3 halfs this year. That’s a lot for me. We did escape the winter for 10 glorious days last february (including my birthday!). I absolutely shouldn’t be complaining, it’s just that that was all a long time ago.

Oh, and of course there’s Chester, too. He’s always the wildcard. We’re talking almost 2 months away and I’ve no idea how he’ll be doing in two months.

Plus I want to do VA Beach in March! Yeah, I’m probably getting too greedy here. I think I’m a little emotionally and physically burned out with the caretaking and geez, he’s a dog, after all! Maybe it has to do that if I don’t want an accident, I need to make sure I’m not out of the house more than a few hours at a time unless my husband is home.

Flowers from Trader Joes

On the bright side, though, when I told the checkout guy at Trader Joes I was having a bad day Thursday, he gave me these flowers. How nice was that?

Did you think you were a happy person until you started to vent?

  1. Oh, those Trader Joe guys are the best! I swear, they have to be the happiest employees around. I wonder what the secret is…

I chafe randomly–I could have worn that outfit a million times and the million and one time I wear it, I chafe. I have no idea why.

    Thanks for linking up!

  2. Random chafing sucks…..story of my running life. It just adds to the “glide spots.” Bummer about the Seattle Marathon. That would have been the easy way to add one in for the year. Don’t get me started on drivers…..BAH! That was sweet of the TJ’s guy.

  3. I actually had a hard time coming up with annoying things this month. Either everything annoyed me so nothing stood out OR I’m so darned tired from training, I’m in a fog! I’ve burned my hand inside the oven so many times, it’s embarrassing. You’d think after all these years, I would learn not to. I hope you can work our another fall marathon. That would be great. I want to do a few more halves before year end but I don’t know what I’m going to feel like after Chicago. I’m just waiting to see. I appreciate you linking up with us!

  4. Hope you find another race you’ll like. I have four in the next 2 months and would like to add others but distance / timing doesn’t quite fit.

  5. I can personally vouch for the fact that weight gain changes (increases) chafing patterns. Ugh. I think TJ employees are some of the nicest out there. In fact I was there today.
