Thanksgiving on the brain: TOLT

I’ve got Thanksgiving on the brain so I’m  Thinking Out Loud about it this week.

Chester likes his 2 walks a day
Unfortunately, it’s getting very difficult to get them in as the sun dips lower and lower on the horizon.

So when I don’t have time to walk him in the afternoon, I let him out, he runs out, turns around, and runs back in. Multiple times. Even when I know he has to go. He clearly waiting for his walk.

It’s aggravating.

I’m trying to keep Thanksgiving simple
But then I see a recipe and think that looks really good! I decided to do a turkey breast & legs, not an actual turkey. Turkey really isn’t my forte. This way everyone has a choice between white and dark meat and I think it will be simpler.

My husband is making stuffing from his Dad’s “recipe” (basically adding pepperoni to pepperidge farm stuff mix). I’ll roast some veggies. I’ve already made some cornbread and plan to make another batch.

For dessert there will be pumpkin brownies (brownies with a pumpkin pie-ish layer on top) and individual apple crisps. The brownie base has already been baked and frozen; the apple crisps still need to be made.

Then I saw a recipe for no bake individual cranberry cheesecakes . . . yeah, I bought some cream cheese and cranberries.

7 Years on WordPress????
Seriously, as I was working a few blog posts, I got a message from WordPress that I registered 7 years ago.

How is that possible, you ask, considering my blog is less than a year old?

It’s not my first rodeo blog.

I have to say I was surprised!

Why couldn’t the pilgrims land in summer?
Am I the only one that thinks Thanksgiving would be easier to do in the summer?

Paper or real plates? We’re going paper. Thank you, Amazon Prime.

Turkey Trot, anyone?
Since I don’t have to travel this year, I’m giving serious consideration to finally doing a Turkey Trot.

Of course, staying cozy at home and watching the parade & dog show — finally!; we’re usually on the road by then — sounds attractive too.

Do you plan to do a turkey trot?

I’m linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons for her:

  1. I start getting super overwhelmed when I think about holiday menus, because there are SO many choices on there. I can’t even log in to Pinterest anymore without being bombarded by 1000s of things I want to eat 😆 But our Thanksgiving was over a month ago, so now it’s thinking about Christmas. And I’m pretty sure we have our Thanksgiving in October just because it’s usually snowing and freezing cold by this point.

    1. Since I’m Jewish, Thanksgiving is our big thing.

I get you on Pinterest though — I almost wish I hadn’t finally figured it out!

Last year we did have a big snowstorm the day before our Thanksgiving, but this year looks to be ok.

  2. I think Thanksgiving distracts from the shittiness (its a word) of the weather. Although it hasn’t been too bad…yet. I’ve got 23 coming for dinner and I’m in the make a list stage. Ugh. .

  3. Those pumpkin brownies sound wonderful! Turkey trot…no. But I will run on Thursday as it’s my usual running day. I think it’s probably a good thing that Chester still wants to walk, isn’t it? Other than being annoying I would hope it means that he’s feeling good.

  4. You’re making me hungry. Oh wait, I’m always hungry. I love stuffing the turkey!! I may make my squash soup this weekend since I probably won’t have any. And yes, I’m running the 10K and even maybe the 5k too.

  5. I love watching the dog show too on Thanksgiving! I like that you are keeping things simple. It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of “more is better.” Yum, pumpkin brownies?! We are hosting a virtual 10 K or 10 miler Turkey trot and would love to have you! The more the merrier!

    1. There was going to be 8, now it’s 9 . . . if course I’m just assuming my nephew is coming; I haven’t actually asked.

I think small is nice & personally I’d much rather have chicken than turkey but I know my parents like turkey. I make a much better chicken than turkey!
