Meat or Beans? To dress or not?: TOLT

For a change I have some really random thoughts to share with you this Thinking Out Loud Thursday. Let’s dive right in.

Team meat or team beans?
My husband insists that only chili with meat in it can be called chili. I’m guessing the real reason is he doesn’t like beans. Guess what we had for dinner last night?

Throw enough cheese on almost anything and he’ll at least eat it.

Garmin Vivoactive: not when it rains!

Rain makes me inactive — sort of
Another rainy day yesterday. No dog walk. Heck, just getting them out of the house to do their business wasn’t easy.

It’s kind of amazing how dependent I am on dog walks and running to get my steps in. I topped out around 8000ish steps.

But I was anything but inactive for most of the day:

  • Half an hour of yoga when I woke up
  • 10 minute dance DVD to warm up for weights late morning
  • 30ish minutes of kettlebells
  • Another 15 minutes later in the day of another dance DVD to warm up again
  • Another 15 minutes of a different strength routine from Run Faster, Run Less

That’s just the structured activity. Doesn’t include the laundry, stripping and making the bed, and throwing the chili together in the crockpot.

Steps aren’t everything people!

A fitnessista (oh wait, that’s taken)
I do love that site. But I’m referring to being a fitness fashionista. I always say if you look good, you feel good, and you try harder.

So I did get dressed yesterday. In workout clothes mostly. Nice ones, though. Except for shoes. I kept my slippers on all day except when I had to go out with the dogs and get the mail and during my exercise.

Because, why not?

Stripping on Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was nice, but I’m thankful it’s over
Entertaining is work. Did you see this photo of me, my sister, my mom  my niece? I started out with a cardigan over that tank, but geez, I sure got hot over the course of the day.

It’s amazing how warm you get when you’re moving around vs doing nothing.

I’ve managed to mostly keep the clutter from creeping back in. Of course it’s only been a week. It’s inevitable. Maybe I need to share a photo of my kitchen counters here every week? Because they often seem to take the brunt of it. I’m not joking about sharing a photo of them, either!

And then there’s the little fold out on my couch that I use as my desk . . .

Some of this is still in my fridge . . .

Yes, we still have leftovers
Most of them are frozen, of course. We still have about 3 turkey dinners left (and we gave a bunch of turkey to my sister!). Still have stuffing. Still have the healthy desserts I made: some are now frozen and I am proud to say I have not picked at them at all.

I’m not saying I haven’t enjoyed them some more, but it was a conscious decision rather than “I’ll just take a little taste” which always somehow turns into eating half of what’s left.

There’s still cornbread, too; I need to freeze that. I really like it, even if no one else did. But it’s not something I can eat all the time. I’m not running enough for that.

What did you have leftover from Thanksgiving?

I’m linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons for her:

Thursdays are for thinking out loud

  1. A fitnessista… I like that! I didn’t know it already existed! Put cheese on anything and I’ll just about eat it no problem too! I have absolutely no leftovers from the holiday, for which I’m very thankful! 😀

  2. Mounds of cheese make anything good!

I am for meat and beans chili. Without both-its just not chili!

I tell ya—the clutter struggle is real! Maybe I need an intervention or something!

Glad things went well for entertaining.

No leftovers for me as we went to others for dinner-i am sure they all have left overs.

    1. Basically, we only have the unhealthy baked goods left over. Well, most of them actually are healthy I just have to watch it with them.

I fed my husband cornbread with the chili. Which had no meat, btw, only beans. I feel it’s good for his soul to have the occasional meatless meal.

  3. We went to my parent’s for Thanksgiving and they sent us home with leftovers of everything, but just enough for about 2 more meals. We always make chili with both meat and beans, but I have made a version without beans and I thought it was really good (but I’m not big on beans, so that’s probably why:))

    1. I love beans. And I tend to lean vegetarian, although I eat everything. I make a great bison chili, but unfortunately bison isn’t good for my husband, which is such a shame because I really like it.

  4. No Thanksgiving for us up here in Canada, but YES to always having to deal with leftovers after any holiday. And I know what you mean about depending on walks or runs to get those steps in… I don’t manage to get anywhere close to my goal on most days if I don’t make a conscious effort to go out and take a walk.

  5. All my left overs are gone except for the cranberries and I am putting them in my oatmeal every morning. I’m with you on the rain except that I wouldn’t do all that exercising at home either.

    1. I would walk the dogs in the rain, but then I’d just be dragging them around. They’re better with snow than rain (if the streets are cleared).

Now I’m signed up for the Jingle Bell 5k; one of my sometimes runner friends was on the fence & I could tell she needed a push.

I may just have run more races in the last month than the rest of the year (not counting the halfs, the smaller ones).

  6. Wow, you were very active. I don’t think I could do that many different forms of activity in one day! Funny how you said that your husband will eat anything if there’s enough cheese – mine is the same way! We might be on to something 😉

  7. I think chili has to have beans. Greg isn’t fond of vegetarian chili but wants it to have beans. He doesn’t eat cheese except on pizza.
That’s a lot of activity. Steps really aren’t the be all and end all.

  8. Since I don’t eat meat, I am going to go with beans lol
I get so hot when I am doing dishes and cleaning, etc…I roast!
We had three days of rain! I was glad to see sun popping out again.
