I’m so often shocked when friends I look up to confess to not feeling confident in their abilities. Sure, I often feel that way, too, but they are so obviously talented.
Even if you’re not confident in your abilities, and that is human nature for most people, you can still be confident as a runner:
- Confident in your training plan
- Confident in your willingness to do the work
- Confident in your coach (if you have one)
- Confident in your runner friends to be there for you
- Confident in your family to support your running
- Confident that the hard work you’ve done will get you through your race
And when you’re not confident, because we all have times of doubt, just fake it til you make it, or as Nike likes to say: just do it! Sometimes pretending to be confident can actually make you confident.
I totally did that with yesterday’s vlog, so far out of my comfort zone — I guess I was good at faking it, because even Mr. Judy, who tells it like it is, said it wasn’t bad (which is praise from him).
Never give up and be confident in what you do. There may be tough times, but the difficulties which you face will make you more determined to achieve your objectives and to win against all the odds.

I’m linking up with Deb’s Wednesday Word — click through and read what others bloggers have to say about heart. It’s always fascinating how everyone has a different take on it!
Are you confident, or do you have to fake it?
Fabulous thoughts! Some things I’m confident, some things just have to be faked! As for running, I take the Nike route… I just do it. 😀

I don’t really think I’m a very confident person, but running helps!

Sometimes, you just have to fake it! Sometimes I discover I had confidence after all!

Fake it till you make it has gotten me through several tough situations ! I thought you looked and sounded very confident in your vlog ! You were calm, clear & focused.

Thank you, Karen. It may have taken about 20 attempts to get that one . . .

I missed your vlog–I’ll check it out! I was asked to do a podcast with another runner (not Marcia–lol!) and I keep thinking, who wants to listen to me?
Hello, confidence…

Wendy, EVERYONE wants to listen to you.I’m pretty sure all us bloggers want to meet you.
I was actually on TV once years & years ago. I belonged to a small business organization & was friendly with one of the founders, so she recommended me.
I can’t say as it boosted my business, but I actually didn’t come across too bad!
I am shy and even shyer on camera; having to be video’d for my nephew’s Bar Mitzah last year was sheer torture and I looked like a dork!
You’d be great at a podcast. Do it!

I love the thought of just keeping moving forward and let confidence find you! Way to go on the vlog (and I agree, you should definitely start a podcast)!

There’s that saying that forward is a pace, too. 🙂
I didn’t hear anyone mention a podcast, certainly not me! Now THAT would be outside my comfort zone! But thank you.

That is high praise from Mr. Judy 🙂 Yes, I have to fake it sometimes….I think we all do.

Yes, and then he called me out for doing a quote from the wrong movie (which was since deleted — the quote, that is).

I am confident. I have to admit when coming into new situations, I am a bot shy but I warm up quickly once I have surveyed-lol!

I am shy, and tend not to be so confident. But running definitely helps in that department!

I love this and I totally agree – we all have things we can be confident in, and sometimes we do just have to fake it until we make it!

Confidence is something I’ve always struggled with in life, even as a child. As I wrote on Wendy’s post, all we can do is be the best version of ourselves. ❤

I’ve always struggled with it too.
I’m very confident about clothes & I know what I like & what looks good on me!

Having been in the military for 20 years I wore a uniform every day. I can finally say after 5 years post retirement from the military I actually have a bit of fashion sense lol!!!

I tend to be a pretty confident person but you’re right, every now and then those doubts creep in and mess things up a bit. But I know I’m always trying my best and, well, the best you can do is the best you can do. And if I’m not able to try my best, I fake it 😉

I just viewed your video from Tuesday. I loved it! It’s always cool to put a voice with the face. I think I come across as confident to others, even when I might not be on the inside.

I might come across as confident on the blog, but in many ways, I am just not a confident person.
Except when it comes to clothes, as I keep telling everyone. I’m very confident there!

I’m surprised at what a good strategy “fake it until you make it” can be!

I’m pretty confident most of the time, but sometimes… like in my closet for example, I’ll buy an outfit, but never mix or match because I’m not confident in doing that myself. When purchasing clothes I ask the poor sales associate a million questions about what I should wear them, what jewelry, etc.
Thanks for linking up!

That’s so funny, because generally I would say I’m not very confident, but when it comes to clothes, I am. I’m very good at putting together outfits, even stuff I’ve bought years apart.
I actually hate being bothered by salespeople usually, because I know what I want!
