5 Reasons You Might Want a FitDesk Bike

I had been saying I wanted an exercise bike for years, but 2016 was the year I wanted to make it happen. I didn’t need a lot of features, I just wanted to get in some cross training (and have something to fall back on in case of injury).

Enter the FitDesk Exercise Bike. (disclaimer: affiliate link).

Cynthia from You Signed Up for What?, Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC, and Mar from Mar on the Run have fitness on the mind for this week’s  Friday Five , so I decided to review my new bike.

It comes with a resistance band (which I don’t use)

It’s versatile
It’s an exercise bike, obviously. There are resistance settings from 1-8. It has a desk for your tablet, laptop, book, what have you. The desk also has a drawer. And there are these resistance bands, too (which seem rather like an afterthought, frankly). There are also “massage bars” to rest your arms on, but frankly they don’t do a whole lot for me, and I love massage! They don’t bother me, either, though.

On the downside, it’s not for spinning although I suppose you could do it. There are no biking programs. And while it can be moved, the wheels really don’t work well on carpet.

It’s quiet
Most of the cons I read in the reviews of this exercise bike talked about how it was quiet at first, then became noisy. After 2 months of using it 3 x week most weeks (and sometimes more), I have no issues with noise.

I did have an issue with the display. It was dead on arrival — turned on, but didn’t show anything other than 0s. The company did eventually replace it, and it works, although I don’t think it’s terribly accurate.

Since I use this bike mainly for cross training and just to add movement into my days, it really doesn’t matter to me.

We bought the bike because it was a daily deal on Amazon on New Years, and I’d been looking for an exercise bike for a while. Because of our issues with the display, we came to find out it’s a very small company. They obviously were not prepared for the overwhelming response to being an Amazon daily deal.

It doesn’t require electricity (except the display takes batteries)
You don’t have to plug anything in. You just get on and bike. Easy peasy!

Pull out the tab in back to fold it up

It folds up
While I have folded it up, and it’s not very hard, I will admit that most of the time I just leave it in place.

It’s still a nice feature to have. For those rare occasions we have company and need more room. In general it’s a fairly small footprint for an exercise bike.

It doesn’t roll well on carpet

You can do some work on it
I can fit my ipad, ipod, the tv remote, and a water bottle easily on the desk. I haven’t tried to actually blog on it, and I doubt I’d be coordinated enough to do so. But I have read my email while biking.

Reading emails while biking

Many parts are adjustable, but I think if you’re shorter than me (5’1″), you wouldn’t be able to adjust the pedals high enough. They might be just a tad too low for me on the highest setting. And I wouldn’t mind if the desk came in closer, either (the desk is adjustable, but again, I’m just short!).

But most people aren’t as small as me. Or as vertically challenged, anyway.

Bonus: it’s comfortable!
Way, way back when I belonged to a gym, I tried spinning. Spinning was fairly new then. I enjoyed it, but I stopped pretty quickly because those darn seats just caused pain down there. Even when I purchased a gel seat cover to go over the seat!

I have no issues with the seat on the FitDesk Bike (affiliate link) at all. I’m relatively small, though, so if you’re bigger, I don’t know how comfortable it would be. I suspect most people would find it comfortable.

Do you have any cardio equipment at home?

    1. I do like it! It was kind of an impulse buy — that particular one — since it just come up as a deal at the right time; I’d barely begun researching & didn’t know much about it but said ok & now I’m glad I did.

    1. Natalie, I’m not sure you’d be able to adjust it to the proper height. I think it’s just barely right for me. Everything is adjustable — pedals, seat, desk — but still, not so much for us small people.

      1. Good to know. That’s always been an issue with the recumbent exercise bikes for me. I’m glad my cheapie one works for me.

  1. It looks fabulous… if you’re coordinated enough to be able to work on it!! I’m not so sure I could do anything on a bike other than read or watch TV… hmmm, maybe that’s how I could get some TV watching in, come to think of it… go sit on the bike for a couple of hours, lol! 😀

  2. Wow! I’ve never heard of this bike but I like how versatile it looks. And the fact that you don’t have to plug it in and can fold it up would be a big plus for me. And I typically hate how uncomfortable bike seats are so this one sounds great!!

    1. I’ve had no problems with the bike seat at all, and yeah, they’re usually horrible.

I’d never heard of it either, but it was one of the daily deals on new years (which was the lowest price my husband could find).

  3. I bet you could knit on a bike like that. I can at work on a regular exercise bike.

I am glad that it works for you. I am never home enough to use one but maybe someday.

  4. This is very cool! I love the idea of multitasking with the bike while being on my laptop. I’ll have to think about buying this when I move into a house!

    1. I hadn’t really been thinking about that, but I knew I wanted an exercise bike, and I’d started to read email standing at our kitchen counter (one is raised so it’s almost the perfect height), and I’d explained to my husband why I was doing it.

And then this was an Amazon daily deal. Serendipity strikes again. 🙂

  5. I have never seen one of those. I don’t think I would like it… I am trying to avoid too much multi tasking and biking and doing something else would be too much for me to handle. LOL
Love your pictures and demonstration !

  6. Ooh interesting! I love that it has a desk. I don’t have space for any extra stuff in my apartment right now, but I will definitely keep this in mind for the future! 🙂

  7. I do have cardio equipment at home. We have a treadmill that I use a lot through the winter months. It has many programmed runs (speed, calorie burner, incline) and some video runs. I like it but prefer running outside. I also have a rebounder that is fun. I even have a few DVDs that I can do.
