Over some tea I might actually tell you that it’s been far too long since I’ve been out for afternoon tea. On the other hand, I have a few pesky pounds I’d like to lose this summer, so maybe that’s a good thing.
I don’t do iced tea, by the way.
But I am joining up with Coco, Deborah, and Lynda for their ultimate coffee date anyway.
If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I would tell you that somehow I swam the exact same distance in the exact same time two weeks in a row. It will probably never happen again.
I couldn’t run the exact same times if you paid me to!
It’s not like I was trying to, or even aware; my goggles fog up so much I can barely see my watch.
If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I would tell you that it has been almost 6 months since we lost Chester. There still isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about him, but it’s more wistful than painful these days. And I haven’t felt his presence in a long time.
If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I would tell that just Thursday morning I ran into a neighbor walking his dog, and he said to me: “Didn’t you have 2 dogs?”.
There really is no easy way to ask that question.
If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I would tell you I miss quiet! People are talking on their cell phones everywhere. And it totally annoys me.
I’m pretty sure I’ve ranted vented about this before, but it continues to annoy me.
Walking out of the locker room the other day I heard someone talking on their phone. They were walking on the treadmill at the time. If you can talk on the phone while you’re on the treadmill, I don’t think you’re really getting all that much fitter.
If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I would you that while I don’t have to walk Lola as early as I had to last summer, it’s still a tricky balance getting in my run and her walk before it gets too hot. And what I consider too hot would be laughable to those of you in the South, but it’s all relative. We’ve been having stray 90F days on and off lately (more off than on, thankfully).
Some mornings I walk her before my run, some mornings I use her as my cool down.
Tea? Iced Tea? Coffee? Decaf? Or something else?
What do you need to get off your chest?
I’m sure that your dog walking neighbour realised that your dog had died and understands your pain. You obviously still miss Chester a lot. He must have been a lovely dog. Xx

Oh no, I know people don’t mean to be hurtful, and it’s not now, but shortly afterward I just dreaded telling the neighbors who didn’t know me well, because it’s like ripping off a bandaid. 😦
Most dogs are lovely!

Ah yes it would be great if we all just threw our mobile phones away and looked up to face each other and breathe!!! Loved the coffee/tea date 🙂

100% agree with you on the cell phones. I don’t want to hear other people’s conversations. I have to constantly tell parents to take their phones out of the clinic. It’s so chaotic there, and having parents standing in the hall talking on their cell phones just adds to the noise. Don’t even get me started on them answering their phones during an exam!

Yes, I really don’t want to hear other people’s conversations most of the time — especially not in the bathroom!

The constant cell phone usage is a pet peeve of mine too! i can understand about still missing Chester. We just lost our beloved dog a week ago – it’s going to take a lot of time to adjust. Hope you have a great weekend!

Again, so sorry about your loss. Running always helps me with stress — always.

I don’t hear people talking too much on the their phones seems like they are texting all the time and walking into things 🙂 I am sure it is still hard for you to think about Chester xoxo . I could never run or swim the same time twice either. I am all over the place.

Oh yes, the walking into things can be scary. But a lot of people on bike paths, in parks, at least here, are always talking on their phones & I go there to relax, not listen to other people’s conversations!

I have a really hard time tuning out someone’s cellphone conversation, but it’s not really eavesdropping if they’re not even trying to keep it private! That man probably meant well with his comment, but it didn’t come out right! I learned from my neighbor’s FB page that her dog had passed away – he’d had issues for a while but we will still miss him.

I know that the other dog dad meant well. But there is really no way to ask that question! I’d never really talked to him before.
We don’t too many neighbors that well, you so rarely see people out anymore . . .

I’m sorry about Chester, we recently lost our beloved dog, it takes time. I don’t think I could run or swim the same time, I’m all over the place.

I was very, very surprised to see it right down to the second.
I’m so sorry for your loss; he’s the first dog we’ve lost, but not the first furkid. It’s always hard.

Gosh my heart just goes out to you. I’ve had several friends lose their pets over the last few months and it makes me hug my Sammy a little tighter as I see him aging.

Thank you, Michelle. It has been a while, after all, but he was my little shadow and while I love Lola, she’s a very different dog.
They just don’t live long enough (and some shorter than others — Chester was only 10).
How are YOU doing?

I don’t think we ever get over a loss like that. I am doing ok…this weekend is hard between work and the holiday as well as tomorrow marking the 25th anniversary of the day I joined the military. I miss it every day.

I would’ve thought work would help to take your mind off things a little. Thinking of you — you’ll get through this and come out the other side stronger, I know.

It’s more of a texting thing around me (and I’m guilty). But I do see people strolling (barely moving) in the park while talking. Why bother? I know you still miss Chester but I’m glad it’s not as painful. I just finished a 9 miler at 8:45. It was 91 degrees. Ugh.

I would not be running outside in 91 degree heat! You don’t even want to know the temp here (not hot — in fact, a great day for running).
Just think how much stronger you’ll be in the fall!

People in the grocery store yacking on the phone not paying attention to where they push the cart…UGH!! A big pet peeve.
I still miss Otto all the time, I get it, I really do.

I know you miss Otto, Karen. It’s the only thing REALLY wrong with our furkids — they just don’t live long enough. 😦

I’m so sorry about Chester. I have an old dog and I know it will be so hard when her time comes.
As for phones, I have seen people using them (not talking) in the sauna and I just think “How is that not overheating??” The gym is not the place for texting or talking on the phone!

Wow, in the sauna? No way I’d bring my phone in there! Someone needs to cut their cord, so to speak. And that would definitely annoy the heck out of me!

We lost Archie, our bird, very suddenly in September. It’s been almost a year and I still get hit by random waves of grief. Losing a pet is just so, so hard. I’m glad that your grief for Chester is more wistful than painful these days.

It is not the first, nor the last, time we’ll lose a furkid, but it never gets any easier.
I hope you are able to smile now, at least sometimes, thinking about Archie.

I had a cat I was particularly close to, and she passed in 2009. I still dream about her, 🙂 … but, of course, Meep looks just like her, and every once in a great while I’ll accidentally call Meep by her name. Poor Meep doesn’t even get to have his own identity, lol.
I like iced tea as well as hot (I lived on it in Arizona)… but these days, I hate the heat, glad you’re not having very many 90° days yet. Hopefully it’ll stay mild for you!! (And me too, hehe)

Today is particularly mild, but it’s going to warm up again.
Simba and Gizmo were brothers, and our pet sitters always had trouble telling them apart, although we didn’t.
I never call Giz Simba, except those time I go through every pet’s name to get to the right one . . . We lost Simba in 2012; I really worried about Gizmo for a time, considering they shared genetics, but thankfully he’s still healthy, knock on wood.

I love your high tea vs coffee idea! I am definitely a tea drinker. It is so tough to lose a pet. As you said, they are with you so much of the time. I totally agree with you about cell phones.

LOL! O can agree with the cell phones, enough folks! Pay attention to your surroundings we certainly don’t need to hear all that 🙂 I have hot tea every evening, love it!

Of course when they brought our food in NYC, Karen, Darlene & I all whipped out our phones to photograph it. 🙂

I don’t like iced coffee, nor iced tea. I find people are much more discreet about talking on the phone. Of course everyone is using their phone all the time, I hardly even notice anymore though I do make an effort not to use it when I am with people. When we were together in NYC I didn’t see you take a picture of the dessert ! See, I don’t even notice when people use it….

I think I’m really sensitive to noise. I hate when my husband has the tv on all the time!
That’s funny you didn’t see me take the dessert photo!
