State #12 . . . :11/28-12/4 Weekly Wrap

. . . #holottafun!

Deep in winter, our hosts reached out to some fellow bloggers and myself and invited us to run the Panama City Beach Half Marathon with them. What blogger in their right mind would say no to such an invitation?

The road to this meetup was long and rocky and it seemed in peril at times, but I made it and our hosts sure made it a weekend to remember. Thank you, ladies, from the bottom of my heart. It was, indeed, a #holottafun.

This week not only am I linking up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin, by the time you read this, I’ll have actually met them in person (God willing! — don’t want to jinx myself).

Running updates

Monday

I think this week was even colder than last Monday, but not windy — and sunny! And that would be the last time we saw the sun. And easy 3 miles and some strides afterwards.

Bandit on the run

Wednesday

With the forecast calling for 90% chance of rain, I was pretty sure I’d be on the treadmill. Don’t want to tempt the running Gods with colds. It wasn’t raining when I got up, so I hustled the dogs out for a walk right after feeding them.

And since it looked like the rain would be holding off a little longer, I changed into running clothes, did a quick warmup, and headed out with Bandit for an easy 3 miles. He seemed pretty willing.

He’s gone as far as 2 1/4 miles before. At first I thought I’d go 2.5 miles with him, but then I really didn’t wan to have to drop him off at home and just run a half mile. He seemed fine, so I thought I’d try for the full 3 miles with him.

He had different ideas. In fact, at 2.5 miles he just stopped. He didn’t look particularly tired, so I thought maybe he just needs a breather and paused my watch. We did a little training, cause I figured maybe he needs some food. But no, when I tried to start up again, he made it clear he was done.

So I crossed the street and headed home. And he was perfectly content to jog with me as long as we were headed home. But when we got there, and I only had .15 miles to go, I ran right past our driveway.

Boy, he knows where we live! He was not at all pleased. But somehow between bribing, cajoling, and a little dragging, I got him to finish the whole 3 miles with me.

Don’t worry, he’s perfectly fine. Obviously he was just done with running. You know that feeling!

Getting ready to rock PCB!

Saturday

We couldn’t ask for better weather to run a half — it was a gift from the running Gods. At some point I’ll be recapping my race, but let’s just say my body loves flat & fast. Congrats to all the ladies who raced with me!

Favorites of the week
I can tell you something that definitely wasn’t a favorite: getting my period right before my trip. Especially since I thought I was post menopausal. I was totally blindsided by it.

But hands down the favorite was running with fellow bloggers, Florida, sunsets, and a #holottafun. So I’ll just leave you with a few pictures of the weekend.

Love dining by the ocean!

No guys, it’s not food!

And that’s a wrap

This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.

I’m also linking up (just call me the link ho today) with with MCM Mama Runs, Marcia’s Healthy Slice, and My No Guilt Life for the Tuesdays on the Run linkup.

Tuesdays on the Run

Let’s get the conversation started:

Would you meet up with some fellow bloggers for a girls’ vacay?

Ever run with your dog & any tips for me?

What was your best race of the year (not necessarily your fastest)?

    1. Poor Bandit won’t get any runs this week. I take the week off running after a half (not to mention we’re supposed to get a lot of messy, sloppy weather this week).

But hey, now he gets to be on the furniture . . .

  1. It sure was a #holottafun! Congrats on nailing a massive PR. When Remy was young he’d run a mile with me. The vet said Bichons could train to run up to 5. One day after a mile or so he too just stopped and I ended up carrying him home. Dogs are so freaking smart.

    1. Thanks, Marcia!

Bandit is supposedly a jack russell terrier/chihuahua mix, but seems to have more terrier than chi.

I don’t think he was really tired at all — I think he was just done for the day. 🙂

Maybe he was the secret to my PR, LOL, which would be pretty funny because with all the stopping, sniffing, and peeing, they are slooooow runs even by my standards, which is why I only take him out for the easy runs.

  2. Judy it was so great meeting you this weekend! We did have a blast and I’m so very glad you had a great race and a lot of us are smiling for the PRs!!!
To answer your question, I’d have to say this race was the most fun being with all of you, some before some during and all afterwards! Just amazing!

  3. I can’t wait to read your recap!! That blogger meetup just looks like a blast from the pictures alone so I can imagine it was amazing making memories in real life!!!
I would totally run with fellow bloggers!
I run with my dog at least 4x a week. No more than 2-2.5 miles at a time though. She Likes to run fast but When she is done she stops and lays down wherever. As soon as we get home she rests for 5 minutes and is ready to go again. Oh to be young!,lol!
One of my fondest memories at a race was this October when I did an out of state run ( due to hurricane Mathew evacuation ) and literally ran into my college cross country coach. I hadn’t seen him for 17 years!
    Anyways,
Glad you had an incredible time with friends at the beach and had a good race!!!

  4. I can’t wait to read your race recap!

My dog went out for just under 3 with me today. She seemed to really enjoy it. I’m going to keep taking her with me to see how far she’s willing to go. 🙂

    And, periods suck. Boo.

    1. Periods REALLY suck when you’re just about 55. Could be worse, of course.

I suspect that 3 miles might be it for Bandit, but I only take him on the easy runs anyway.

And maybe it was that mile we walked before the run . . .

  5. So glad you had an amazing time this weekend. I followed the fun on IG and had fun just watching y’all!

I only ever did up to 3 miles with Baylee and even them I probably shouldn’t have ran her that far (this was a few years ago). My sister runs with her lab but I think that may be why she is starting to get arthritis ( the dog, not my sister). I always said that when I got a puppy I would start running with it when it was old enough but now I don’t know if I’ll do that with the next dog since labs get arthritis and hip dysplasia earlier than most other dogs.

    1. I think Bandit is mostly JRT, but I don’t know for sure — I don’t think I’d do more than 3 miles with him and they’re only my easy runs.

I don’t run with Lola, you’ll notice, she has back issues. And she’s a sprinter, anyway!

  6. Judy – the pics of all of you guys are so fun! I couldn’t believe it when I first saw them in Instagram! Who’s idea was it to meet up with everybody in Panama for the Half? I can clearly see that this was one fun running weekend. How great that the weather turned out to be nice – not too hot! Thanks for sharing the awesome and fun weekend trip!

    1. I think it was a mutual decision between Holly & Tricia.

The weather was perfect. It was SUCH a gift. I really expected to have a slow half, because humidity is not my friend — and in fact, the next day would have been a totally different story.

  7. I am so glad you ran that killer race 🙂 The PR’s were happy for me as me getting one, I love to see others make it happen!
I always like Bandit’s expression in his pics.
I loved the festive palm trees too…it just makes the pace look happy.
I hope you are feeling better!

  8. Glad you had such a great time in Florida. What better kind of weekend than spending it with women in warmer temps and talk about running all weekend ? So much fun !

  9. I was delighted you accepted my invitation Judy. It was so much fun getting to know you! Congratulations on that massive PR. Very, very impressive! I’m glad the weather was kind to us. I love your pic with the lighted palm trees. I didn’t think to get one. I look forward to your recap. Thanks for linking.

    1. I’m not sure it was really massive, but don’t get me wrong, I’m very pleased with it. And not expecting to be running a half in that time anytime soon, either.

But now I have another time to beat . . . someday.

The recap should be up tomorrow (and your keys should be coming real soon — they got delayed; I mailed them out last Wednesday).
