Oh Deer!: 8/28-9/3 Weekly Wrap

It wasn’t a great summer. So much better than last summer, though, and no natural disasters here so we are very blessed. Do you feel like summer is over with Labor Day? It’s hard not to feel that way, with the lovely Fall weather we’ve been having.

Tomorrow will warm up, but it won’t be sticking around.

I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin and today’s guest host to share how I spent my “last” week of summer. How’s your training going?

Running updates

Too early for capris! But also chilly

Tuesday

I took Monday off, since I did back to back runs over the weekend. Tuesday daawned blessedly cool and cloudy; perfect for my tempo run. I really debated what to wear. I was running errands afterwards, and while I knew I would be comfortable running in a skirt, I also knew I’d be cold afterwards. I settled on capris — yes, in August! — and for me, it was totally the right decision. I did wear a tank on top, and I actually changed out of that after the run.

Another run where I couldn’t seem to hit my tempo paces — not until the last mile of the tempo. It seems to take me a couple of miles to go from easy to tempo pace. They turn into progressive runs.

I won’t lie — it really frustrated me.

Oh, and I forgot to check the schedule — this was supposed to be a 5 mile tempo, not a 6 mile tempo. Oops.

Wednesday

The good news is I was able to cut back today’s easy run to 5 miles. Such a beautiful day to run. This easy run was a lot speedier than I expected it to be — right up until I picked Bandit up for that last mile.

While I’m not really looking forward to Fall, it seems to have arrived — seriously, trees are changing and leaves are falling.

Can you see the fawn?

Saturday

Another picture perfect day to run. A little bummed that I’ve already had to break out the capris, but on the other hand, it makes for great running weather.

Much of the group going t Wineglass got together for a group run. I ran with running buddy J for a few miles, then her heart rate was inching up so I completed the miles on my own.

Not a fan of the gravel

About 2/3 of this path is not paved yet and I wasn’t a fan of the large gravel on it, so I took it easy. I was also thankful that I chose to tape, unlike my last 10 miler, and I was also rewarded by my legs feeling great post run.

I also stopped to enjoy this scene on my run yesterday

Favorites of the week
It was actually another week with lots of little frustrations that kind of built to the boiling point on Wednesday (especially since I ended up sleeping on the couch in the middle of the night as Lola was having one of her gagging allergy attacks). I was sooooo tired.

But I had a great time getting together with some friends midweek and catching up with one with a long walk in the park. No photos; we were busy yakking.

In a blogger fail again, I didn’t take any photos of our post long run breakfast. The idea was to hash out some of the details of our upcoming racecation, but although we did discuss it, no conclusions were really arrived at. It has grown from the idea of me and three running buddies (one of whom can’t come) to now 10 women. We almost have a Ragnar team!

I am absolutely loving the fall running weather, even if it’s not fall yet.

Tensions are way down since we’ve just accepted all Bandit wants is dinner. And he’ll even eat it now if I give it to him. I still think it’s hard on a small dog’s digestion, and that shows up in the poop department, but it is what it is.

On another note, Bandit did quite well when the dishwasher repair man came Friday (couldn’t find anything wrong, naturally — but thinks it might be an intermittent problem so we’ll see what happens when I run it tonight). Sure, he was his usual barky self, but after climbing all over the guy with tail wagging, he just went back to his usual bed and chilled (for which he got some treats).

They made a baker’s dozen

I returned to Instagram (do you follow me? @chocolaterunsjudy) with these blueberry muffins (they’re pinned on my muffins board here) — they hit the spot on a rainy Sunday!

And that’s a wrap

This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.

Let’s get the conversation started:

Ever gone on a racecation with a large group of women — not Ragnar?

Love Fall or dreading Winter?

Found any good deals for Labor Day?

  1. Not looking forward to winter. But really dreading the time change.

I’ve been traveling with 10 women for over 15 yrs. it’s not easy you have to accept than people will not agree.

I think I’ve decided to go on Friday but Alyssa will not be going until Sat.

    We’re getting close.

  2. I am so looking forward to fall. The weather that we have had the last two days is amazing!! I’m all ready for the comfort food, cozy clothes, and apple cider too. I may be just a little ahead of myself.

Your muffins look amazing! I love portable foods. I’ll have to check out the recipe.

  3. I think our beagle only ate once a day (dinner), so I’m sure Bandit will be fine. We’ve had a few days of cool weather but summer is supposed to return this week. Meteorlogically I think it does have a few more weeks to torture us!

    1. I know summer isn’t over, but here, it mostly is! Which is kind of sad.

While Bandit ate all his supper last night, he was still oddly squirrely and didn’t want to come to me & his crate. Sigh. It took a lot of persuasion.

  4. Working in a school, we start ramping up in mid-August for the coming academic year. Summer’s over then. I can’t wait until I retire and can REALLY look forward to Labor day being the unofficial end of summer. 🙂

  5. As you know, I am dreading fall arriving so early (it feels like it landed in Iowa on Aug. 1) because I am in NO hurry for winter. If there was a guarantee that it would be a long & pleasant fall, I would be a little more eager to embrace it 😉 (Oh, and I am holding off on theh capri’s for as long as I can…)
