Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.
— Marcus Aurelius
Perspective is the Wednesday word this week.
My perspective on running for 40+ years of my life? I can’t run. It’s too hard.
And then once I decided I wanted to start running, and did start running: I won’t run outside. I’m not going to race. I’ll only do 5ks.
One of my favorite quotes from Hamlet:
There is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
— William Shakespeare
How true that quote is! All we have to do is change our perspective (point of view). Take just this morning, for instance. It was cold. Gray. Drizzly. Who wants to run in those conditions? One perspective is that it’s too nasty to run outdoors (or at all).
The other perspective is that running, even in a cold drizzle, would ultimately make me feel better.
I’ll leave you to guess which perspective I chose.
Do you like to change your perspective on things?
I like to run and walk in the rain as long as I can come inside and dry off and I don’t have to be somewhere. (talk about a run on sentence 😉
I hope you enjoyed your outside, rainy run.

It was a tempo run and I’d much rather do that outside. I’ll do speedwork on a treadmill but tempos on it are really hard.

I think we have to but today, I think I’ll stay inside.

You’re excused. You have a race coming up. 🙂

Isn’t it wonderful that we are able to change our point of view? Just think if kept the same perspective our entire lives. Blah!

Or if we all had the same perspective — boring!

And so easy not to consider other points of view!

Rainy here too. I chose running, but I did it on the treadmill 🙂

I woke up at 4:50 and it was drizzling, but I headed out anyway 🙂 My thoughts were, if it rains it’ll feel cooler lol it was very humid though, no heavy rain until I was almost home.
I had the exact same perspective on running till I was 45 lol

Except my rain wed was a very cold drizzle. I survived, obviously.

I was lucky — later on in the day it was pouring!

My perspective is that I’d rather run outside any day than on the treadmill! I like to keep moving forward!

I like your perspective, and I’m sure you chose the run. Running somehow makes a dreary day brighter!
Thank you for linking up and sharing your perspective!

I like to run when the weather is bad. Because it means you’re outside. If you weren’t running, you’d be inside. I mean, why would u go outside? ? So running means u get out, even when the weather is awful. So I try to like it (on my good days 😉 )

Love the Hamlet quote! There’s so much truth in it. Choosing to have a positive outlook on things can make such a difference.
