And then there were 2: 1/4-1/10 Weekly Wrap

We’ve spent half our marriage with more than 2 animals: first there were 2 cats (aka the girls), and when one of the girls had to be put to sleep, we adopted 2 kittens (aka the boys). 10 years ago we adopted Chester, after the last girl had to be put to sleep; keeping us at 3 furkids. A year later we adopted Lola, and then there were 4 — which really made moving 2000 miles across the country so much fun. Not!

Gizmo wants to be the only furkid

For now we’re going to hang out with just Lola and Gizmo. Lola doesn’t seem to be mourning Chester and I know Gizmo isn’t mourning him; in fact, Giz would be so happy if Lola disappeared, too, but he actually seems a bit more relaxed with just Lola now — which is really odd, because they never seemed to get along. Maybe 2 dogs were just too threatening to him — who knows? Or maybe he’s more comfortable because he has moved into the alpha slot.

Oh wait, you came here to find out how my fitness is going? Pretty good, actually!

Don’t forget to join up Holly of Hoho Runs and Tricia of Misssippipiddlin to recap your week and be inspired by what others are doing — including the fact that both our hosts ran their first marathon yesterday!

Chilly, sunny run

Running update
Tuesday was just cold. It was sunny, but I just didn’t feel up to facing the cold, even though I know that once I get out there and moving, it’s okay; so I took to the treadmill. I tell myself it’s easier on my knees and hips . . .

I had originally planned to do another run Friday, but I looked at this weekend’s weather, and Sunday called for rain and lots of it (but much warmer). I had a feeling Darlene was going to want to run on Saturday, so even though it made my day very busy on Thursday, I got it done. And I got to get out of my neighborhood.

I’d forgotten how nice it is to run somewhere other than my neighborhood. There are several chances for snow in the upcoming week, so I may have to stay in the neighborhood again (because it’s hard to find a cleared area to run in), but for now I am taking advantage of having more freedom to be away from home!

And yes, Saturday, Darlene and I met up again. She did 5 miles before I met up with her, and I helped her cool down the last 6.

Not what I had this weekend, but my favorite meal pre or post race/LSD

Weekend Favorites
Sushi. I swear if I could eat sushi every day, I just might. Even better, sushi delivered! I just didn’t feel like going out Saturday night, and last week we finally tried getting delivery from one of my favorite sushi places. It’s only about a mile and a half away, but winter makes me want to just stay cooped up in my house (until it doesn’t).

Seriously, the thought of showering, feeding Lola & Gizmo, getting changed . . . it just seemed like too much work (but I did shower).

Star Wars; yes, we finally got to it. Unfortunately we happened on a tv show in passing, before we went to the movies, that just threw out a spoiler. At least they didn’t say how.

We both thought it was good, not great; really, it seemed like a rehashing of the original Star Wars with new characters. And old ones, of course.

Obviously Rey was born to someone important — for much of the film I was guessing Leia and Han; that they had twins and hid one away; towards the end of the movie I was guessing Luke. I guess we’ll have to stay tuned.

Finally make a decision about VA Beach . . . sort of. We had decided to do it, but I thought about it overnight, and decided I’d rather wait until next year when we can sign up earlier (hopefully) and pay a lot less (and pray for a mild winter again).

I have been eyeing the Kiawah Island Half for a while, and we made the decision to do that, but now I’m going to drive my husband bonkers and look at what else is available in December (in a area that is usually warm, or at least warmer).

Because this year is the 39th Kiawah, and maybe for the 40th they’ll do something special? It may still be the one we’ll settle on, but for now, I think there will be a fall half and one in December, God willing, and, of course, Shipyard Maine Coast half in May (don’t forget to use the code JLitt to get $5 off your registration — it’s going to be a fun, pretty race!).

  1. We are in a similar boat too many babies with all the moving we have done. Our are old and we have three but when they begin to pass we plan to take a break from pets. I love them to death but so much love takes up so much time. Sorry you lost chester.

    1. I’m about to get on my treadmill, too. It’s not below zero, and I almost talked myself into running outside, but it is extremely windy and the windchill makes it feel like 11 — if it hadn’t been so windy I would’ve tackled it!

And wed is supposed to be pretty much the same. 😦 I might push it off to Thursday . . .

Good thing I’m not training for anything yet!

  2. Cold seems to be the theme of the link up. It’s now winter, and even in Texas we’re in our normal winter pattern now. I used to be able to put up with cold, but no more. I hope it’s not too bad this winter because I would like to get outside to run during my training.

    1. I get outside sometimes at least; a lot depends on how windy it is or whether or not there’s sun.

But I tell myself my treadmill is kinder to my joints a LOT in winter! Even when we don’t have much snow, like at the moment.

  3. You always do such a fabulous job on your extra video workouts, I’m always so impressed with that! I want that to be something I strive for my next training cycle, to work more muscles. I’ll have to channel you… Happy you got to see Star Wars! I’ll just do my usual and wait for the DVD, lol!

    1. You have to remember that I don’t work, but many of those warmups are just 10 minutes long, the ST just 20-30 minutes, so it’s not as much as it may sound like.

That’s another reason to hold off on the half . . . I can continue on maybe knocking those last few pounds off finally.

      Maybe!

  4. Your cat is very cute!

I will probably head outside after work – not looking forward to it.

If I win the lottery, I am signing up for all those destination races on my bucket list!!!

  5. I would love to run a race in my home state of Maine… but I don’t go there often enough ! We are currently watching my BIL’s cat for 2 months. Makes me glad we only have 1. Two is so.much.work.

    1. Unless they’re sick, I don’t find cats to be a whole lot of work. Gizmo is kind of annoying during the winter because he thinks I should just be laying on the couch all day long and actually stalks me sometimes!

Dogs — that’s a different story. But even there, 2 isn’t really that much more work than 1.

Unless they’re sick . . . and then they suck up all my free time! And Gizmo will be 15 soon. Knock on wood, so far, so good.

    1. Right now I’m eyeing Memphis possibly in December, which wouldn’t be warm, but warmer than home — and definitely better than doing it in the heat of spring/summer.

I’m going to throw it out to my husband, too, though and see what he comes up with.

Hoping to nail it down early so we don’t have to pay an arm & a leg for a race.

  6. That sushi looks great! YUM! Cold weather does make you want to stay inside and hide! I am not a Star Wars fan so I have not been. I am glad you got outside, running with a friend and getting out of the neighborhood can work wonders!

    1. Getting out of the neighborhood again is pretty awesome. Except this week I’ll probably be huddle on my treadmill most of the time, because it’s very cold and super windy. I don’t even want to go out to do my food shopping today!

  7. Cats, they like to be in charge. I think in their minds they usually rule even us.
I am going with Luke to Rey’s father…
At this phase of life I want as little as possible, I have 6 cats and I really wish I had one. I have a hard time keeping up with them and working full time. They feel like a full time job lol
ya, know I just can’t do sushi…so many people love it I know, but i can’t even get a bit down lol

    1. Animals can definitely feel like a job! The most we ever had were 3 cats (but 4 animals for a few years).

I’m pretty happy having the 2 of them, but I shudder to think of being without any, and Giz is almost 15 & Lola’s 10. 😦

Gizmo is a very biddable cat, and I really wasn’t sure who would end up on top with Chester gone, but it seems to be him.

Used to be he wouldn’t lay on me — or rarely, anyway — if Lola was laying on me. Now he walks all over her to get to me (which is exactly what his brother, Simba, used to do).

Occasionally he curls up in the bed Lola usually sleeps in . . .

  8. As you can tell I’m very slow getting through the posts, but I so appreciate the shout out from our run. I haven’t run at all this week, wait, I haven’t done much of anything all this week. I think I’ll try for a easy 3 miler Saturday before I fall slam off the wagon! Have you been getting better sleep at night?

  9. I eat a lot of things and like 99% of it — but I’ve never had sushi. I don’t know why! I’ll make that a 2016 goal. Now that this marathon is over and I seem to have weathered the storm, I’m stalking the internet to find races. Anywhere. Everywhere. All.The.Races. Giz is very handsome. I can imagine he’d like to have all the attention. Thanks for linking Judy!
